At Bolder Academy our Science curriculum is designed to develop our students into kind, strong, brave young adults where a Bolder future awaits.

The aims of the Science Curriculum

1. Develop student understanding of a range of scientific ideas in the disciplines of Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
2. Create curious, skillful and thoughtful scientists that question and hypothesise to answer unanswered questions.
3. Allow students to relate scientific knowledge to phenomena and the world around them.                                                                                            

How we deliver Science

Bolder Academy follows the national curriculum across KS3 and KS4. There are four teaching cycles per year, where students are taught the scientific disciplines. A range of teaching strategies are applied to ensure that students are provided with the opportunity to develop skills across practical work.

Students learn how to work scientifically and are taught:

• Scientific attitudes.
• Experimental skills, measurement and investigations.
• Analysis and evaluation.
• Mathematics and its application in science.
• Handling and representing data.

Students are also provided with the opportunity to develop their literacy and oracy within science.

Our Intended Impact in Science

We will know if we have been successful when our students live and breathe our three core values within the Academy and beyond. When they demonstrate:

• Kindness: By knowing the importance of compassion and education when thinking about the natural world; the consideration of ethics in research and building collaborative practice between scientific peers through sharing of information.
• Strength: Understanding subject specific knowledge when observing the changing world around us and communicating experimental findings clearly, effectively and confidently.
• Bravery: Developing scientific skills such as hypothesising, evaluating, analysing, reporting and mastering practical expertise.

Equally we want to prepare students effectively for the current and next stage in their learning, whether this be GCSE or A Level examination, University study or the world of work.
