Bolder Languages

At the beginning of January, Year 12 students studying Spanish visited the British Film Institute to take part in a Spanish study day introducing director Pedro Almodóvar’s themes and styles with a screening of ‘Volver’ which is the movie that is going to be part of their A Level paper. Everything was in Spanish so they were able to improve and practice their Spanish.

On Friday 17th January, 14 talented languages students visited the London Royal Holloway University for the launch of the Year 11 Languages for All programme for 2025.

Students attended a lecture on Italian culture, fashion and design and how fashion impacted the design of vespa.

Students had the opportunity to tour the campus and ask questions about student life before having a keynote speech from a BBC Sports presenter who covered the Olympic Games in France and interviews in French and other languages.

The students came away realising just where languages can take them and many considering taking languages at A Level or beyond.

On the 21st of January students who are studying Languages at A Level had the opportunity to visit the Meta Offices at King’s Cross. We had a lovely morning meeting people from all around the world and speaking in Spanish, French, Dutch and other languages! We were able to see how many opportunities learning a language gives you and how far it can take you. Students were not thinking about working in the future in technology, but after meeting so many lovely people with all their different experiences, they changed their mind (the free food also helped). We were able to do this trip thanks to Languages For All who keep giving many new experiences to our students.
